Adapting your build

Buying against the team you're facing.

From Silver

« Good medicine depends on the patient! Look at their five at loading, then again every back: healing, physical or magic, and buy the antidote. »

  1. Read their team

Four deal physical damage, one magic, three heal. You hit one of them: he heals it all back.

  2. Lots of healing: anti-heal

Anti-heal in your next slot: their healing is cut. What you deal now mostly stays dealt.

  3. Mostly physical: armor

Four of their five deal physical damage: armor next. Their hits take less off you.

  4. Mostly magic: magic resist

Another game: four of them deal magic damage. Magic resist instead of armor: same reflex, different answer.

  5. The classic mistake

Your usual build against three healers: no anti-heal. Everything you deal, they heal back.

When to do it

  • Several of them heal or have life steal: get anti-heal (Grievous Wounds) early, it cuts their healing.
  • Most of their damage is physical: armor is what keeps you alive.
  • Most of their damage is magic: magic resist, then.

How to keep it

  • At loading, look at their five champions: who heals, who deals physical damage, who deals magic.
  • At every back, look at who hurts you most, and buy against that.
  • Keep your core items and adapt the next ones: the build stays yours, the answer fits the game.
The classic mistakeBuying the same build every game. Against three healers with no anti-heal, everything you deal gets healed back.
Good to knowAnti-heal reduces healing, it doesn't remove it; and it only works on the targets you actually hit.

The tip for your rank

Iron to Silver

One reflex at loading: if they have several champions who heal, put an anti-heal item in your build.

Gold to Emerald

Read their damage too: mostly physical, get armor; mostly magic, get magic resist. Check again at every back.

Diamond and above

Adapt to what decides the fights: the carry who got ahead, the healer who keeps them alive. One well-chosen item makes their win condition harder.
