The freeze
Holding the wave just in front of your tower.

« A freeze is like keeping a potion on ice: touch only the last hits, and your opponent has to come all the way to you, far from their tower. »
- The meeting point
The enemy wave has a few more minions: it stops just in front of your tower, out of its range.
- The last hit, nothing else
You only hit to finish a minion. Never before: your wave would take over and march toward the enemy.
- Your opponent has to come
To farm, they have to walk far from their tower. If they stay back, they lose gold and XP; if they come, they take a risk.
- Your jungler cashes in
They're exposed, far from their tower: the perfect moment for a gank from behind.
- The classic mistake
You hit every minion to go faster: your wave marches to their tower, and they farm safely under it. The freeze is lost.
When to do it
- You're ahead: your opponent has to walk up to farm, and exposes themselves.
- You're behind, or their jungler is around: you farm next to your tower, out of reach.
- Your jungler is on your side of the map: an opponent who walks up becomes a target.
How to keep it
- The enemy wave has a few more minions than yours: it is the one that comes to you.
- You only hit for the last hit. One hit more and your wave takes over.
- If it grows too big, finish one or two extra minions: a wave that reaches your tower is a lost freeze.
The tip for your rank
No need to count minions: when the wave reaches the spot just in front of your tower, only take the last hits. That's already a freeze.
Keep an eye on the enemy wave: when it gets too big, finish one or two extra minions so it stays out of your tower's range.
Freeze as soon as your opponent can no longer force you off the wave: you cut their gold and XP, and their jungler has to spend time coming to break it.
