Don't facecheck the fog

Light a dark area before you walk into it.

From Bronze
Professor Zéphyrinthe Academy's instructor

« That dark bush only bites when enemies are missing from the map. Then light goes in first, never your face: a ward thrown from a distance. »

  1. The fog hides them

Nobody on your team sees into the bush. Two enemies may be waiting in it: you can't know.

  2. Count who's missing

Three enemies are visible elsewhere on the map. The two others could be anywhere, including right here.

  3. Light it first

You throw a ward into the bush from a distance, without walking in. It shows them: now you know, and you choose.

  4. The classic mistake

You walk alone into the dark bush to ward it: the facecheck. Both of them are there, and they see you first.

When to do it

  • Enemies are missing from the map: every dark bush near you may hold them.
  • You want to ward a bush: the bush itself is the place nobody sees into.
  • You're alone, or the squishiest of your group: you're the last one who should walk in first.

How to keep it

  • Count the enemies you see: if some are missing, treat the dark as occupied.
  • Light it from a distance: a ward thrown into the bush, or your Oracle Lens.
  • No vision to spare? Let a tanky ally go first, or take another way.
The classic mistakeWalking alone into a dark bush to put a ward in it. The enemies waiting there see you first, and you die before the ward is even down.
Good to knowA dark bush isn't always full: when everyone is visible on the map, there's nothing to fear. The danger is the dark when enemies are missing.

The tip for your rank

Iron to Silver

One rule: never walk alone into a bush you can't see into. Ward it from a distance or go around.

Gold to Emerald

Before entering the dark, count: if their whole team shows on the map, go; if several are missing, light it or wait.

Diamond and above

Sweep and ward ahead of your team: a bush lit before a fight turns their ambush into a fight you can see, and choose.
