Securing with Smite
The last hit on an objective, when it counts.

« Patience is the whole formula: eyes on the bar, their jungler in mind, and Smite only when the health drops to its damage. Not a heartbeat early. »
- Keep Smite for it
You hit the dragon with your ally. Your Smite is ready: you've kept it for this.
- Where's their jungler?
Your ward shows him coming, and he waits at the edge of the pit. He can steal it with his own Smite.
- Watch the bar
The dragon's health comes down toward the mark: your Smite's damage. Not yet.
- Smite at the mark
The health reaches the mark: you Smite, and the dragon is yours. Their jungler never got his chance.
- The classic mistake
You Smite too early: the dragon survives it. The bar reaches the mark, and it's their jungler who Smites it. Stolen.
When to do it
- You're heading for an objective: keep Smite, even if a camp on your way tempts you.
- Their jungler is close: he has Smite too, and he's waiting for the same moment as you.
- The health bar nears your Smite's damage: now all your attention goes to that bar.
How to keep it
- Arrive with Smite ready: don't spend it on a camp just before.
- Know where their jungler is: seen by a ward, or missing, maybe right by the pit.
- Smite when the health reaches your Smite's damage, not a moment before.
The tip for your rank
One rule: never Smite a camp when you're heading for the dragon or the Baron. Keep it for them.
Keep your eyes on the health bar at the end, and on their jungler: if he's close, Smite on time, not early.
Play the whole fight around the Smite: keep their jungler away from the pit, and a steal never even gets a chance.
